Reception have had a wonderful first few weeks of school settling into the classroom routine with their new friends. We have enjoyed taking first day pictures, having tours of our schools and getting to know one another within our indoor and outdoor provision. Within our individual schools we have explored our outdoor areas, such as visiting the forest school and exploring the outdoor areas. We have been practising new skills including name and number writing and getting ourselves changed for PE lessons. We have also met 'Fred the Frog' who is helping us with our sound blending and we have been enjoying our daily Phonics lessons, introducing our initial sounds.
In Reception we have loved our project-based learning so far. We are just coming to the end of our 'All About Me' project where the children have shared all the things that make them special. We have drawn self-portraits and pictures of our family and have loved writing in our new books! Some children have had the opportunity to record themselves in the TV studio alongside their peers and we all enjoyed an exciting author visit from Sarah McIntyre on her book 'Grumpycorn'. We are now beginning our 'Colours' project where we are learning about Elmer the elephant and how his differences make him special. We are enjoying some art-based activities in class linked to this project, as well as beginning to create class displays.
From painting and puppets to building and writing, it has been a busy and fun-filled start to term where we have begun to build lovely friendships and become increasingly familiar with the school environment and expectations. We are particularly looking forward to using our 1-1 devices as the term progresses and building our digital technology skills in line with the Early Years Curriculum.
