Library Update Sep 20Cornerstone libraries welcome new staff, new software, and new books!

The new term has brought along with it lots of new and exciting things for the libraries at Cornerstone Academy Trust.

All of the schools are now in the process of setting up Accessit, the new software for Cornerstone libraries, which should now be fully available to children from here using their usual log-ins under the ‘log-in using SSO’ sectionThis new software has a lovely web-app for the children to browse and reserve books, the home page of which has lots of exciting features including links, recommendations, and videos!

Meanwhile, Broadclyst library has welcomed the newest member of the library team, Miss Carter, who has been waiting to start with us since April (and so is naturally very excited to finally be here)! Alongside a new librarian, Broadclyst has also had lots of new books arriving over the summer, including the hilarious Planet Omar books, the critically acclaimed picture book ‘My Hair’, and the award-winning adventure novel ‘Orphans of the Tide’.

Westclyst library has been a little extra busy this term as it has been serving the foundation children from Monkerton School as well until their campus is completed. The librarians have loved introducing them to the library and were impressed with the older children’s enthusiasm for Roald Dahl last week.

In addition, the children at Yeo Valley have been completing their Accelerated Reader quizzes with fervour and seem very happy with the new ordering of fiction alphabetically by author.

We understand that parents may be anxious about safe use of the library in relation to Covid-19, but the librarians are taking every possible precaution to ensure that the libraries can be used safely whilst still being able to facilitate a love of books and reading. Hand sanitiser is now provided before entry, social distancing is being maintained through timetables that ensure the bubbles don’t mix, and books that cannot be cleaned are being quarantined for 72 hours before being re-shelved. Additionally, the bookworms scheme will remain on Flipgrid for the time being, with Yeo Valley’s already up and running, and Broadclyst and Westclyst/Monkerton following suit in the next few weeks.

We look forward to everything this new term has in store.
