This week is national 'Safer Internet Day'. It is a day celebrated across the globe in over 170 countries, with thousands of children joining in across the UK. In school it is also a day when we celebrate all the great things about being online and remind ourselves how we can stay safe. As always we are marking this in school with a week of activities and lessons focused on the theme or message of the year, which this time is 'An internet we trust: exploring reliability in the online world'.

We launched the week on Tuesday with a whole trust assembly with Mr Lees, followed with the classes all working not just on their usual weekly CEOP online safety lessons, but additional projects and activities to support the messages of safe behaviours and healthy habits around online gaming, browsing, chat and app use.

Classes will have a chance to review the annual pupil survey of online activity for their year group, which everyone is completing this week in advance. The survey asks children about what they do, play and watch online, and when, where and with who they do it. It also asks them about how safe and happy they feel when online. These surveys are a really useful way for the trust and our teachers to ensure what we are teaching stays relevant to the habits of the children in this fast paced and continually changing aspect of their education. The children always enjoy this lesson as the data is about them and their peers.

On the Wednesday morning there will be a live lesson from the BBC with famous names sharing their messages about online safety, which everyone will watch during the day. Then on Thursday there will be a BTV 'Safer Internet' special, with interviews about the issues of the week, eSafety in the news and the usual local and national news.

At the end of the week there will also be another trust wide assembly celebrating all the work that the pupils have done during the week. You can find out more about the history of this annual event on the Safer Internet website here. Keep a close eye on our social media channels for pictures of what all the classes are doing during the week.
