Monkerton Community Primary School

A brand-new primary school

Monkerton Community Primary School (MCPS), opened in September 2020, part of the Cornerstone Academy Trust (TCAT), a multi-academy trust that provides 21st century education. Very much a community school on the outskirts of Exeter, MCPS offers 420 places, including a nursery, accommodating children between the ages of 2 and 11. The first class of children began their education in two dedicated classrooms at Westclyst Community Primary School, and the brand new school buildings at Monkerton welcomed them to Year 1, together with a new class of reception children, in September 2021.

The Trust has developed a local, national and international reputation for its innovative use of IT and digital media and is transforming the classroom experience through the incorporation of Microsoft technology, enhancing student-centred learning to achieve better outcomes for all pupils. Staff members focus on delivering personalised learning experiences that empower students to be independent and creative learners, whilst building skills that will prepare them for the future.

Digital tools are going to be a critical part of your child’s future. Whether your child is using a computer to edit a video, a waterproof device to collect data outdoors, or developing literacy, free thinking, creative and communication skills. The ethos of MCPS will be to use the technology alongside excellent teaching to provide an outstanding education, packed with opportunity. However, balance is very important in education, as in all areas of life. The children will also play and learn outdoors as well as in sports teams and they will have the chance to sing in a choir, play a musical instrument and learn to cook.

Empowering students of today to create the world of tomorrow.

MCPS is part of The Cornerstone Academy Trust, a forward-thinking digital academy that is transforming the classroom experience through the incorporation of Microsoft technology enhancing student centred learning and to achieve better outcomes for all pupils. Staff can focus on delivering personalised learning experiences that empower students to be independent and creative learners, whilst building skills that will prepare them for the future.

Virtual Open Event

Cornerstone Academy Trust ran three comprehensive virtual open events involving all its schools last year, in order to give parents all the necessary information to choose the right school for their child.

These information-packed events took place on Microsoft Teams, and included live presentations from the leadership team, the SEND team and the teachers as well as a virtual tour of the school and a wide variety of sessions showing children’s classroom, outdoor and creative activities.

The video documenting the events is available here. It offers you a chance to understand more about each school, our staff and our ethos, as well as seeing at first hand our high standards of education, amazing facilities and commitment to harnessing technology to provide excellence in teaching and learning.
