Monkerton Community Primary School (MCPS), opening in September 2020, will be part of the Cornerstone Academy Trust (TCAT), a multi-academy trust that provides 21st century education as well as professional teacher training through the Cornerstone Teaching School. The Trust has developed a local, national and international reputation for its innovative use of IT and digital media and is transforming the classroom experience through the incorporation of Microsoft technology, enhancing student-centred learning to achieve better outcomes for all pupils.
Staff members focus on delivering personalised learning experiences that empower students to be independent and creative learners, whilst building skills that will prepare them for the future.
Digital tools are going to be a critical part of your child’s future. Whether your child is using a computer to edit video, a waterproof device to collect data outdoors, or developing literacy, free thinking, creative and communication skills, the ethos of MCPS will be to use the technology alongside excellent teaching to provide an outstanding education, packed with opportunity. However, balance is very important in education, as in all areas of life. The children will also play and learn outdoors as well as in sports teams and they will have the chance to sing in a choir, play a musical instrument and learn to cook.
Very much a community school on the outskirts of Exeter, MCPS will offer 420 places, including a nursery, accommodating children between the ages of 2 and 11.
The first class of children will begin their education in two dedicated classrooms at Westclyst Community Primary School, where they will also benefit from interaction with other children in a busy school. It is anticipated that this will be for the first term, depending on construction progress at Monkerton; the timing of the move to the new school building will be made in the best interests of the children.
Our School Direct training at Cornerstone is a year-long school-based experience, leading to a PGCE. The lead school for this programme is Broadclyst Community Primary School (BCPS), an Ofsted-graded outstanding primary school with a significant national and international reputation for innovative use of IT within a broad and balanced curriculum. We work in collaboration with a number of partner schools to deliver this programme.
